How it Started
Creativity has always been part of my life. My mum is incredibly talented, and when I was younger she would draw pictures for me to colour in, make costumes for parties and shows, make games from cardboard boxes, and encourage imagination and creativity in every form.
I was always an avid reader of The Beano comics and they inspired my to draw my own cartoons. I also spent many hours tracing Disney VHS covers, making scrapbooks, and drawing as part of school projects at every opportunity.
Art and music were my two great loves, but I chose to study Performing Arts and spent several years working as an entertainer.
Later, life and work took me in different creative directions, from marketing to cake decorating and countless crafts in between.
But painting? That came back to me much later…
Rediscovering my creativity
In 2024, my parents put together a selection of watercolour paints and supplies as a Christmas gift, knowing I wanted to see if I could paint but was too scared to try.
This reignited my love of art. Once I picked up the brush, I found I couldn’t stop.
Now, I paint whatever I’m drawn to: landscapes, food, portraits, cartoons, and illustrations, which are all shaped by my mood, memories, travel, and instinct.
I don’t have a single style, and I’ve learned to love that! My art changes with how I’m feeling, and that freedom is what keeps me inspired. When I’m creating, my mind goes quiet. It’s where I feel most at peace.
I’m still exploring, learning, and experimenting, and that’s what I love most about it.
What’s next?
As Wendy Wright Designs, I’ve recently become a published author (eeekkk!) and am in the process of launching ‘Animal Passports’ - a bilingual book with my own artwork which is inspired by my love of animals and travel.
It’s only the beginning, but there’s a lot in the pipeline… from new publications in different languages, with exciting stories about the animals and their travels, to developing and selling my artwork more widely.
But for now, I’m simply enjoying the process and painting whatever feels right and seeing where it takes me.
